L’émergence économique des pays africains à l’épreuve de la Covid

L'Afrique a jusqu'à présent été épargnée par le pire de la pandémie de coronavirus en termes de cas et de décès, mais son économie n'a pas eu cette chance; en particulier les petits pays, plus pauvres, qui dépendent d'une seule ressource ou d'un seul secteur. En 2019, avant l'avènement de la Covid-19, le continent avait déjà connu un ralentissement de la croissance et une réduction globale de la pauvreté, malgré des disparités importantes entre les pays. La crise actuelle pourrait anéantir des années de progrès en matière de développement. Moubarack Lo, Senior Fellow au Policy Center for the New South, présente la situation de l'Afrique et explique en profondeur l’impact du virus sur l’ambition d’émergence des pays africains.

    The aim of this paper is to assess the regional economic impact of the lockdown measures ordered by the national government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Using an input–output model, we estimate the economic loss of extracting groups of formal and informal workers from different economic sectors.
