While elections will be held in major countries of the South (including India, Indonesia, and South Africa, among others) and in Russia, the North Atlantic will also be home to noticeable contests. The U.S. and the EU have witnessed a surge in right-wing populism. How both powerhouses will fare in front of that challenge to liberal democracy as it was traditionally understood, and how it will shape their foreign policy and engagement with the rest of the world, are the topics of this conversation with Strahinja Matejic, Associate Director in the Office of the President at the Eurasia Group, and member of the ADEL 2022 cohort.

With India looking more towards Africa as a home for sustainable partners, it is also looking at diversifying the areas of collaboration with several African countries, especially with Morocco. True to the ambition and spirit of its inaugural edition (2017), then entitled ‘’Mirror of Africa,’’ the «Annual Report on Africa’s Geopolitics», under its new name, explores new horizons, with a view to better grasping the dynamics at play on the continent. This is reflected in particular in the three-part structure of the Report. In Part I (Regions), Africa is broken down into its diverse geographical areas, with a focus on the continent’s various regional economic communities. E ...

The concept of ‘developing country’ is now a source of controversy, asking “Is China a developing country?”, for example. The normative implications of such question will be considered, after a grief survey of its use in international organizations. Then, the transformation of the relations between States from asymmetric solidarity to symmetric complementarity is suggested. As an example of complementary relations, those between Morocco and Japan is surveyed. ...

To lessen the burden for countries like Malta and Italy, which receive most migrants daring to sail from Libya to Europe on unsafe boats, Germany recently agreed to accept 25 percent of migrants saved by rescue boats, trying to develop with EU countries like France, Romania or Ireland a voluntary distribution sharing plan in the coming weeks. Over the last days, 82 immigrants disembarked in Italy from a Mediterranean rescue boat- the first officially approved landing this ...
