Water Security

Morocco and the MENA region face mounting pressure on water resources due to population growth, climate change, urban expansion, and agricultural demands. With rainfall becoming increasingly unpredictable and aquifers under stress, the region is shifting toward alternative solutions such as desalination, wastewater reuse, and integrated water resource management. This collection presents analyses on the economic, environmental, and geopolitical implications of water stress, the cost and governance of desalination, and the need to align water policies with energy and food systems. It offers concrete insights for policymakers navigating the complexities of water security in a region marked by vulnerability and strategic interdependence.
