Elie Tenenbaum passe ici en revue les principaux développements ayant trait à l’intervention française dans la région du Sahel. Après quelques rappels liminaires sur la géographie régionale, ses caractéristiques sociales et anthropologiques, ses interactions avec d’autres zones, il évoque les circonstances et les modalités de l’engagement français aux côtés des Etats de la région, et les principales difficultés qui se font jour dans la lutte contre le terrorisme. Il tire par ailleurs les principales conclusions à retenir du sommet de Pau du 13 janvier 2020, qui réaffirme l’implication commune des Etats du G5 Sahel avec le partenaire français.
