Symposium - The State Of Foresight Studies in the World

May 26, 2023

The Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University are co-organizing “the State of Foresight Studies in the World” conference and workshop sessions on May 26 and 27, 2023 at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat.

The world is undergoing a major demographic boom. Projections state that global population will reach 9.7 billion people in 2050, with population growth almost coming to an end at 10.4 billion in 2100 . This growth represents a considerable heavy trend that requires different actors and stakeholders to think about the future strategically. Indeed, the global landscape is becoming increasingly complex and dynamic, exposing decision-makers to a remarkably higher level of uncertainty and complexity. With this context in mind, it is crucial for all actors within the international community to emphasize on the importance of anticipating and understanding change in order to ensure proper policy implementation through strategic decision-making.

This conference will rely on an inclusive and participatory approach, in order to involve the largest number of Foresight centers and institutes across the world. This initiative will include a High-level conference during the first day, as well as workshop sessions during the second day, to discuss in depth the state of Foresight studies in the world, alongside networking sessions.

WASHINGTON-The December 2020 U.S. Treasury Report (hereafter referred to as the TR) to Congress singled out Vietnam and Switzerland as currency manipulators. In Vietnam’s case, it is surprising that the U.S. Treasury openly expressed its concerns about a country that graduated from the group of low-income countries only a few years ago. Additionally, Vietnam’s GDP per capita and total GDP are a fraction of the U.S.’s, but the country is assessed in the same way as developed countrie ...

Getting vaccines into the arms of the right people, those most at risk of dying from the disease, could radically reduce the death rate from COVID-19 within months. It would also normalise the situation in hospitals, trigger a swifter economic recovery than is widely anticipated, and dramatically reduce the need for borrowing by governments that future generations will have to repay. Vaccination has become even more urgent as new, more infectious strains of the virus have spread to ...

The self-declared Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s (SADR) declaration on the Guerguerat crisis, in November 2020, to terminate the 1991 ceasefire agreement and go to war with Morocco raises a problem regarding the legality of third States granting State recognition to the self-declared SADR. International law imposes an obligation on third States to not grant ‘premature recognition.’ Moreover, premature recognition would constitute illegal intervention in the internal affairs of t ...
