Aziz Mekouar is Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South. Aziz Mekouar served as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the People’s Republic of China from 2018 to 2023. Prior to that, he was the ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United States from June 2002 to September 2011. He then embarked on a new career as an advisor for major Moroccan groups and multinationals. During his tenure as ambassador in Washington, DC, Aziz Mekouar oversaw the negotiation and signing of a Free Trade Agreement between Morocco and the United States, and managed the compact between Morocco and the United States’ Millenium Challenge Account. Helmut Sorge is a columnist at the Policy Center for the New South, where he publishes opinion pieces in the format of international press reviews of current events related to the Middle East and European affairs, and conducts interviews with high level policy makers and PCNS researchers. He is also a lecturer on journalism and the media. For over 40 years, Helmut Sorge served as a writer, former Foreign correspondent, Foreign editor, and Middle East expert for Germany's leading newsmagazine "Der Spiegel" to Washington, London, Paris and Los Angeles. He reported from Vietnam, the Middle East, wrote about safaris, nuclear accidents, visited prisoners on death row in the United States.
