AD Talks 2020: América Latina en el mundo post-Covid: conversación con ex-presidentes

América Latina está inmersa en una nueva realidad mundial: la convivencia diaria con la pandemia de Covid-19, que ha causado a esta región una de las tasas de mortalidad más altas del mundo. También se enfrenta a una crisis humanitaria cuyas causas son varias, aunque destacan la inestabilidad política, el malestar social, la fragilidad de los sistemas de salud y, quizás lo más importante, las duraderas y generalizadas desigualdades (tanto en ingresos, acceso a los servicios de salud, educación) que se han ido integrando en el tejido social y económico de la región. Hoy en día, América Latina lucha por encontrar el equilibrio entre mantener estrictos controles sanitarios y abrir sus actividades económicas a plena capacidad, mientras reduce el número de nuevos contagios diarios y las tasas de mortalidad. Otra alternativa (complementaria) sería buscar el equilibrio entre cuarentenas, tratamientos alternativos y campañas de vacunación para reducir el riesgo de contagio y controlar permanentemente la pandemia. Este panel tratará de contestar a las siguientes preguntas: - ¿Cómo reaccionarán los gobiernos para proteger a sus ciudadanos y contener la propagación del Covid-19, y al mismo tiempo salvar sus economías? - ¿Es posible el regreso a la vida normal tal y como era antes de la pandemia a pesar de los recientes disturbios sociales que están teniendo lugar en algunas partes de la región? - ¿Cuáles serían las acciones y soluciones para mitigar las repercusiones negativas provocadas por la pandemia en los planos social, económico y geopolítico? Karim El Aynaoui is Executive President of the Policy Center for the New South. He is also Executive Vice-President of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Dean of its Humanities, Economics and Social Sciences Cluster. Karim El Aynaoui is an economist. From 2005 to 2012, he worked at the Central Bank of Morocco where he held the position of Director of Economics, Statistics, and International Relations. At the Central Bank of Morocco, he was in charge of the Research Department and equally a member of the Governor’s Cabinet. Previously, he worked for eight years at the World Bank as an Economist for its regional units of the Middle East and North Africa and Africa.
