Our Senior Fellow Rida Lyammouri will contribute to an exclusive closed-door roundtable focused on the intricate dynamics of political transitions in West Africa. This invigorating event, organized by the Tony Blair Institute, holds a central objective: to illuminate the nuanced facets of the recent coup in Niger and its far-reaching implications across the region and beyond.

Against the backdrop of the Sahel region's sixth coup d'état since 2020, where the military junta's action led to the ousting and detention of Niger’s President Bazoum on July 26th, this roundtable emerges as a beacon of insight. Operating in a landscape rife with insecurity and geopolitical complexities, the fall of what was once considered a stronghold of democracy and a pro-Western ally has sent reverberations extending well beyond the Sahel.

The event will take place online, on Thursday, 10th August at 14:00 GMT+1 (UK time)
