From
Len Ishmael, Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South, will participate in an event hosted by the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester. The session will take place on Tuesday 14 April, as part of the Third Plenary session titled “What is the future for Development Cooperation?”, bringing together discussions on evolving approaches to global development. The session will include a contribution from Ken Opalo of Georgetown University on international actors’ engagement in Africa and related governance dynamics.
In addition to this plenary participation, she will speak on the theme “Global Development in a G-1 World, and Why the Global South Matters.” Her presentation will address the impact of contemporary global crises on the rules-based international order, and their implications for global economic and political stability as well as vulnerable populations. It will also explore the future of development cooperation, including emerging partnerships across regions and ideologies, the growing importance of South-South cooperation, and the implications of declining official development assistance, situating these shifts within broader transformations in global governance and development policy.
