Charlotte Brandsma

Charlotte Brandsma is a political scientist and activist with an interest in security, civic engagement and women’s rights. Her geographic focus is Europe, the United States and the Mediterranean region.

She currently works for the German Marshall Fund (GMF), developing its research on Mediterranean geopolitics and security, informing European and U.S. policy making. In 2017, Charlotte co-founded The Brussels Binder, a non-profit organization with the mission of bringing more women into the public debate. She developed an open database of women experts and is responsible for growing an international ecosystem of stakeholders that are committed to a gender-balanced debate. Previously, Charlotte worked at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs on human rights and European affairs. She has an MA in International Relations from the University of Groningen.
