Anja Riester is a Principal at Boston Consulting Group in Johannesburg, with 15 years of experience across Africa, Europe, the United States, and Latin America. She works across the public and private sectors, advising governments, multilaterals, financial institutions, and companies on strategy, transformation, and cross-sector partnerships. At BCG, her work spans financial institutions, global health, and economic development, including payments and financial inclusion, health financing, and public-private partnerships. She is particularly interested in how AI can expand access and advance equity in emerging markets, and in ensuring that the Global South can help shape how AI is developed and deployed. Previously, she was VP of Strategy and Growth at a New York healthtech startup developing novel drug-delivery technologies. Anja holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard University and a Master in Management from HEC Paris.
