Euro Area Reform
The Ministry of Economy and Finance – Morocco
A high-level discussion with Mr. Jeromin Zettelmeyer on the “Euro Area Reform” will take place on Tuesday 3 October at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Morocco. It aims to shed light on the main Euro reforms by capitalizing on Mr. Zettelmeyer’s insights.
Since 2011, a number of significant reforms have been undertaken both at the level of the EU and the Euro area, partly in reaction to the great financial crisis and partly triggered by the 2011-12 euro area crisis. In last few years, however, reforms have stagnated, mainly due to disagreements between France and Germany. The election of President Macron offers the promise of infusing the reform process with new life. The discussion will aim to take stock of the outstanding agenda, and examine how recent events – including the rise of nationalism and populism in the EU, and the results of the German election – may affect the chances for a new reform push.
