Reviving Global Growth with Inclusivity Role of Governments, Multilateral Institutions and Private Sector
From
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in collaboration with industry bodies and think tanks worldwide, including the Policy Center for the New South, is organizing a round table titled “Reviving Global Growth with Inclusivity
Role of Governments, Multilateral Institutions and Private Sector”, on October 14, 2023, in Marrakesh.
The Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank taking place in Marrakesh, Morocco, from October 9 to 15, are significant, marking their return to Africa after almost five decades. This seven-day event will address pressing global concerns, with a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Slow progress toward the SDGs is concerning, compounded by the challenge of securing adequate financing. The B20 India Taskforce notes that the SDG financing gap has likely grown from $2.5 trillion in 2019 to $4-5 trillion post-COVID-19. Post-pandemic recovery emphasizes the importance of financing the SDGs. To achieve the SDGs by 2030, an estimated $30 trillion of additional spending is needed. Developing economies face a more acute financing gap due to constraints like high debt and limited budgets. Addressing the funding shortage, especially in developed economies, highlights the crucial role of the private sector. Strengthening domestic capital markets, innovative methods like blended finance, and facilitating cross-border private capital flows, as seen in India's CSR funds, can help.
The event will focus on:
1- Mobilizing Private Capital: Discussing ways to bridge the SDG funding gap by mobilizing additional private capital.
2- Global Donor Fund Structure: Exploring the structure of a global donor fund for prioritizing and financing SDG projects.
3- Emulating India's Success: Examining how other economies can replicate India's success in proliferating digital services for deeper financial inclusion.
4- African Integration: Discussing strategies to enhance the integration of the African continent with the world to unlock its potential.
