By Invitation

The Policy Workshop, organized within the framework of the IDRC-funded project Climate–Care Nexus: Adapting Care Systems to Climate and Migration Pressures in North and West Africa, is designed as a policy and research dialogue bringing together public decision-makers, international organizations, and leading experts.

The workshop aims to position the climate–care nexus as a critical policy issue by exploring how climate change and migration pressures are reshaping care systems and redistributing unpaid care work across households and communities. It will draw on international evidence and comparative experiences to identify emerging policy priorities and highlight pathways for integrating care considerations into climate and social policy frameworks.

A central focus of the discussions will be on the role of national institutions in addressing these challenges, particularly in terms of aligning social, climate, and gender policies, and strengthening institutional coordination mechanisms. The workshop will provide a platform for exchanging concrete experiences and identifying operational entry points for policy action.

At the same time, the workshop will support the operational launch of the project by aligning participating countries (Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Mauritania) on key analytical and methodological aspects. This includes refining the conceptual framework, discussing approaches to measuring unpaid care work, and ensuring consistency in survey design and data collection strategies.

By combining policy dialogue with technical and methodological alignment, the workshop aims to bridge the gap between research and policy, and to contribute to the development of evidence-based, coordinated, and context-specific responses to the climate–care nexus.
