In this closed-door session organized by Syngenta, Fatima Ezzahra Mengoub, Senior Economist, will be analyzing the key trends impacting the future of agriculture in Africa, Middle East and Turkey and look at its implications.Agriculture is a key industry in the geography spanning from Turkey to South Africa, with a massive social and economic impact. It is also at the center of the discussions around the achievement of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Developments Goals due to the industries footprint. AME is home to the world’s fastest growing economies and populations. Six out of 10 fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa and it is also home to the world’s largest free trade area, connecting almost 1.3bn people across 54 countries. However, climate change, ongoing instabilities and barriers to trade are all among the factors impacting the industry.

Fatima Ezzahra Mengoub is a researcher and policy analyst specializing in agriculture and rural development. She holds a PhD in Economics and an engineering degree in agriculturaleconomics from the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Sciences. She currently holds the position of Chief Agroeconomist at the OCP Foundation, following her previous role as Senior Economist at the Policy Center for the New South. She has lectured in economics and decision-making at several institutions and published extensively on agricultural investment, value chains, and irrigation.
