The Policy Center for the New South will be represented at the Towards MED2019 – Regional Meetings organized by ISPI (Italian Institute for International and Political Studies) taking place at King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, Riyadh, Saudia Arabia.

Under the theme "Med-Red" Linkage: Shared Problems and Common Opportunities between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea », our Senior Fellow, Khalid Chegraoui will discuss Economic Cooperation and Trade in the Red Sea region and will answer the following questions, along Kusay al-Khunaizi, Saudi Economist and Consultant ; Cinzia Bianco, Gulf Research Fellow, European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) ; Adel Hamaizia, Research Fellow, Chatham House and Camille Lons, Research Associate, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) :

  • Which fields of economic cooperation should be prioritized?
  • What conditions could facilitate and boost intra-regional trade?
  • How to strengthen the regional bargaining power in multilateral trade system through a coordinated approach?
  • What role has been played by regional free trade agreements such as the COMESA so far ?

Khalid Chegraoui
Senior Fellow
Khalid Chegraoui is Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South and Vice Dean of Political Sciences and International Relations at the Faculty of Governance, Economic and Social Sciences of the Mohammed VI University.  He began his teaching and research career in 1992 as a Research Assistant Professor at Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah University in Fez after earning his first doctorate in African Studies from the Mohammed V University in Rabat focusing on West Sub-Saharan Africa.
