Migration trends across Africa are shaped by economic pressures, climate change, and political instability. These factors drive movement both within the continent and beyond, creating significant challenges for migrants, including legal obstacles and difficulties with social integration in host countries. The effects of migration are felt in both origin and destination countries, influencing their economies and cultures. Technology and digital connectivity are also transforming migration experiences by providing essential resources and information. In this episode of Africafé, we explore the 2024 African Migration trends and discuss these pressing issues with Amal El Ouassif, Senior International Relations Specialist.

Ahmed Ouhnini is an Economist at the Policy Center for the New South. His research area covers agricultural economics, human and social development. Previously, he has worked as a researcher at the Paris School of Economics (PSE) and has also a record of working in consulting services in Morocco. Ahmed holds an engineering Diploma in Agriculture and Rural Development from the National School of Agriculture of Meknes and a Master’s Degree in Law, Economics and Management from the Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne Institute of Development.

Senior International Relations Specialist
Amal El Ouassif is a Senior International Relations Specialist at the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS).She is also a PhD candidate in Forced Displacement Induced by Climate Change at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) and CNAM-Paris and a member of the IDRC-FGSES Chair of UM6P on Forced Displacement Studies.At the PCNS, Amal El Ouassif conducts research on topics including migration, forced displacement, and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.Before joining PCNS in 2018, she worked as a program coordinator at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and served as a consultant in development policies with the office of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Morocco.She is also a former bluebook trainee in the Directorate General ...
