The ADEL 2022 program was truly an incredible experience. An intense but good environment to foster a strong bond amongst the fellows. There were insightful panel discussions across peace & security, industry 4.0, climate change, food security, as well as valuable interactions with ADEL alumni as a segway into the main Atlantic dialogues conference with leaders from across the Atlantic region. The serendipitous moments in the conference made it even more special and the passion for regional cooperation was evident in every conversation. I was particularly inspired by our visits to the Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique (Um6p), the 1337 coding school, and the Green Energy Park which are all pushing the frontiers of innovation, investing in localized scientific research that utilizes resources in Morocco and creating opportunities to make this education accessible through scholarships.

The cultural immersion, hospitality and intentionality was second to none. From our arrival to departure, every experience was carefully curated to make us feel like valued guests.

However, the biggest take away for me is the gift of my ADEL network, a global network that keeps on giving. In just a few months of completing the program we have had collaborative project plans and reunions in cafes, restaurants and homes from Montreal to London to Zurich to Washington DC to Addis Ababa and many more planned cities. These people make me confident that the future of our region and the world is in truly good hands who lead not only with wisdom but with kindness.

I left Morocco with a full heart and a deep sense of responsibility to continue my work in decarbonization, sustainable energy access and also a commitment to enhancing regional cooperation. I hope many more people get to share this experience.
