Maritime security in Africa is evolving rapidly and is therefore driving innovations in the maritime security architecture, offering itself to increased regional coordination. More than 90% of world trade is carried by sea. In Africa, as in the rest of the world, the maritime domain is the lifeblood of the economy and, in many cases, a central element of food security and sovereignty. In this podcast, Licínia Simão , member of the Portuguese Minister of Defence's office and coordinator of the Atlantic Centre Initiative, will analyze what makes the maritime domain so crucial for Africa, especially in the context of the Ukrainian crisis and its consequences on the rest of the world, as well as the main emerging threats and challenges facing the African maritime domain.
