Communications Officer

We are looking to hire a Communications Officer to join our team. The Communications Officer will support our internal and external communications strategy, produce graphic designs corresponding to our publications and events, write and disseminate publicity material in English, French, and Arabic.

A good level in English and French, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proactive and creative mindset are required. A Bachelor's Degree with experience as a Communications Officer or equivalent experience in a similar role is strongly desired.

The Communications Officer should also have strong skills in graphic design and expertise in using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier.

Responsibilities

• Prepare graphic designs for our publications, events and other activities, for dissemination online (e.g. website and social media platforms) and in print (e.g. banners and flyers). 

• Develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our outputs, channels and target audience.

• Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of media and press relations, including coordinating interviews.

• Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database.

• Promote the image of the Policy Center for the New South and coordinate outreach events as required.

• Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.

Requirements

Policy Center for the New South is seeking a rigorous and highly motivated individual to provide research to the think Tank’s Geopolitics and International Relations Department. This is a position for candidates with previous work experience in research, hence kindly note that duties and positions evolve according to seniority and experience.

International Relations Specialists undertake research and analytical work, writing, communication, and presentation of research findings. PCNS’ IR Specialist need to have excellent communication and writing skills.
The candidate should demonstrate an excellent understanding of international relations challenges, and an interest the African continent’s development issues. 

II. Key responsibilities

- In collaboration with research staff and PCNS Fellows, draft analysis and research on key African countries for incorporation into project publications;

Key areas of responsibility

Partnerships Management

• Define the strategy, content and areas of partnership programs ;
• Negotiate and sign partnership agreements ;
• Ensure that the objectives have been understood and taken into account by the partners ; 
• Monitor the progress of PCNS’s partnership agreements: Ensure the delivery of the agreement outputs, manage the ongoing joint activities (both research and convening) ;

Project Development

Program Assistant – Event

Missions et Responsabilités:

- Etablir le formulaire d’enregistrement et envoyer les invitations aux intervenants et aux participants;

Requirements

The position requires at least a Master’s degree or equivalent (Ph.D. preferred) in economics (development economics, microeconomics, international and regional economics, financial economics etc or related fields, such as monetary economics, public finance, banking and/or financial sector) combined with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience. Seniority will depend on years of related experience with a minimum of 8 years required to qualify for a senior economist position. 

Notwithstanding seniority, the position also requires:
 
- A considerable experience in the application of economics and quantitative techniques and a strong analytical capacity for identifying policy implications of research work;

- Econometric / macroeconomic Modelling software skills;

- An aptitude for working under tight deadlines;

- Ability to work with limited supervision;

Internships

Policy Center for the New South offers 3 months full time internships for advanced students, and recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in research, event organization and project management. Interns are supervised and their activities can range from research work and the preparation of draft reports to the compilation of statistical data, administrative duties, assisting with event and media management, project management etc.
