Call For Volunteers : Africa Think Tank Conference 2016

OCP Policy Center, UN Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania are seeking volunteers to provide support at the Africa Think Tank Conference 2016, a major conference taking place May 2-4, 2016 at the Sofitel Hotel in Marrakesh.

In partnership with the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of the University of Pennsylvania, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, OCP Policy Center will host a three-day event on May 2-4, 2016 in Marrakesh on the theme of ‘Building a Sustainable and Secure Future for the People and Institutions of Africa: What Role for North, West, and Central Africa Think Tanks?’. More than 80 Think Tanks’ directors are invited to discuss the role they could play in order to best orientate policy makers, build more efficient institutions, and secure future for the people of North, West, and, Central Africa.

In recent years, several issues facing North Africa have become more and more comparable to the issues facing the rest of Africa. Additionally, the rest of Africa is experiencing economic growth, and the Mediterranean-facing countries are increasingly looking south for trade and investment opportunities.

This conference will convene African think tanks to interact on issues of common concerns and share solutions relating to strengthening the role of think tanks in building a sustainable and secure future for the people and institutions in Africa.

Qualifications : Fluency in English and preferably French or Arabic, excellent communication skills as well as strong interest in challenges facing economy, environment and social issues are preferred. Scope of work : Volunteers will work closely with OCP Policy Center, UNECA and TTCSP staff in the run-up to the event and assist in a wide array of logistical and administrative tasks during the weekend of the conference, including but not limited to guest relations, production, transportation assistance, dinners, security, and interviews. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in some parts of the official program.

Please note that this is a non-paid volunteer position for a period of approximately four to six days based on volunteers’ availability and starting April 28th to May 4th. The organizers will provide all meals; however, we ask that you arrange your own travel and accommodation during your stay in Marrakesh. Please, take into consideration the fact that we will begin phone interviews in mid-April, therefore, thank you for making sure your phone number is mentioned on your CV and cover letter. All applicants will be notified of the decision no later than Thursday, April 21st, 2016.
